Arkansas Girls State in an immersive civics education program designed for young women who have completed their junior year of high school. Since 1942, the Arkansas Girls State program has been working to teach future generations of Arkansans citizens to be actively involved in their communities and government at every level. The program informs them about the duties, privileges, and participation in the functioning of their government; and to help them grasp the meaning of some of the responsibilities, which they must assume when they become adults. The delegates elect their own officials, organize their own legislature, and have official visits to their respective counterparts in the capital. Once a student completes an application, a committee of teachers and a representative of the local American Legion Auxiliary make the decisions on who will attend Girls State based on the following qualifications: leadership, character and honesty, scholarship, cooperativeness, and community participation and service. Magnolia High School Students Earn Judges' Choice Award at HighSchoolHack 2023 A team from Magnolia High School received the Judges' Choice Award at the HighSchoolHack 2023 competition, which took place on May 6, 2023, at the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts (ASMSA) in Hot Springs, AR. The school's team included Gabrielle Nelson, Dorian Pierce, Bryant Meza, and Nico McKenzie. HighSchoolHack is a full-day computer science event for Arkansas high school students, featuring a series of challenges and puzzles in various fields, such as reverse engineering, cryptography, programming, pen testing, web vulnerabilities, forensics, and more. The competition employs a Jeopardy-style, capture-the-flag format that enables participants to expand their computer science and cybersecurity knowledge in a fun way. When asked why they attended, Gabrielle Nelson said, "It's really fun." Nico McKenzie added, "I DID IT LAST YEAR AND I LOVE ITTT SO MUCHHH. ... I hope this will help me explore more programming classes and interests in the future." The challenges for HighSchoolHack were designed by students from ASMSA. Jayden Patel, one of the challenge creators, remarked, "Seeing the students both struggle and ultimately succeed perfectly outlined the learning process." Brent Orlina, another challenge creator, shared, "Guiding students through the challenges and watching them slowly arrive at the right answer was an awesome experience. It was also great to see creative solutions to some of the challenges, which allowed me to learn new things as well." Event organizer Nicholas Seward praised the Magnolia High School team, stating, "This team came to learn and work hard, and it shows in how they performed. They have a bright future in cybersecurity!" For more information about the HighSchoolHack event, please visit http://highschoolhack.me. Mrs. Fish had two other teams also compete to gain experience and although they did not come out victorious this time, they gained valuable experience and insight and are already looking forward to attending next year's competition. These teams included: Tyler Holcomb, Walter Turner, Riley Clawson, Christian Coppersmith, Eduardo Rivera-Perez, and Juan Ortiz Garcia.

Congratulations Levi Loe and Trace Loe on a great finish at Bassmaster Open at the Red River this past weekend! It was a hard weekend for fishing, but they placed 18th out of 97 boats and earned a berth to Bassmaster Nationals at Lake Hartwell in July. There are four opens each year with teams competing from all over the United States. The top 25 earn a chance to compete on the National Stage in July with the best in the country. Go Panthers! Both the Panther fishing teams are headed to Millwood this week for the State Tournament, then both will travel to South Carolina for Nationals in July.
